Francis Van-Lare, the father-in-law of Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a Nigerian cardiologist based in the US, has denied claims that the doctor took his own life over a $15,000 monthly child support ruling.
He shared this clarification on Monday, responding to the viral rumors.
Van-Lare explained that the actual amount was $1,900, which the late doctor only sometimes paid partially.
He also rejected the idea that Dr. Erinne was a quiet and peaceful person, showing screenshots of restraining orders from the Maryland Court. Van-Lare said, “Liars everywhere. He killed himself to avoid paying $1,900 a month, which he only sometimes paid. He wasn’t asked to pay $15,000 as claimed. Deadbeat dad!”
He added, “Check the Maryland Court records for numerous restraining orders. Quiet and peaceful? Not true. If anyone keeps spreading lies about my family, I’ll share more details.”
Van-Lare also warned, “I won’t let any lying bloggers get away with this. No one should blame my daughter for the embarrassment he caused.”
The tragic death of Dr. Erinne, aged 36, has sparked heated reactions from Nigerians both locally and abroad.
Van-Lare further claimed that before his death, Dr. Erinne held his daughter and grandchildren at gunpoint for three hours, after losing a custody battle. He reportedly shot himself when police arrived.
Van-Lare, a well-known socialite, shared this on his Facebook page on Sunday, in response to a post from Facebook user Amanda Chisom, who clarified that Dr. Erinne’s ex-partner was not a white woman, as speculated, but Van-Lare’s daughter.
He added, “I didn’t know until 3am Nigerian time last Monday that the deceased held my daughter and grandchildren at gunpoint for three hours after losing the case. The nanny managed to escape and called the police, and when they arrived, he shot himself.”
Van-Lare also revealed that Dr. Erinne was facing three charges of kidnapping with a deadly weapon, each carrying a 25-to-life prison sentence.
He said, “I guess he chose to kill himself instead of facing those charges.”
Despite the shocking events, Van-Lare expressed sympathy for Dr. Erinne’s family and made it clear that his daughter was not responsible for his death.
“While I feel for his family, my daughter is not to blame for his actions. Thank God it didn’t escalate to where he hurt my daughter or grandchildren,” he stated.
