Over 11,000 Underage Candidates Register for 2025 UTME – JAMB

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has revealed that 11,553 underage candidates have registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Speaking in Lagos on Friday during an inspection of registration centers, Oloyede stated that a total of 782,027 candidates have registered in the last 10 days. He noted that registration is progressing smoothly, with over one million candidates expected to be registered within two weeks.

He also highlighted a growing trend of parents enrolling their children too early, sometimes due to societal pressure. A new system has been introduced to track underage candidates and identify those who may be exceptionally gifted.

Oloyede acknowledged some delays in the registration process but attributed them to stricter measures designed to improve efficiency. He emphasized that students should take responsibility for their registration rather than relying on assistance.

Despite minor challenges, he confirmed that registrations are ahead of schedule, with nearly 100,000 candidates registered in a single day. JAMB expects to complete the process well before the deadline.
