Washington D.C., March 31, 2025 - To strengthen national security, the United States military deported 17 violent criminals from the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 gangs. The deportation was conducted overnight as part of a concerted counter-terrorism effort through cooperation with El Salvador.
The deported are convicted murderers and rapists who have all been identified as members of the violent Tren de Aragua and MS-13 gangs. The transnational gangs, which have been engaged in violent criminal activity and border-crossing crimes, were formally designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations by President Trump as part of ongoing efforts to protect American communities from violence caused by gangs.
Through a press release issued today, the U.S. government reemphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens through deporting individuals who compromise public safety. The successful operation was executed in cooperation with the government of El Salvador, illustrating the close and sustained cooperation between the two nations in combating organized crime and terrorism.
Grateful for the support they obtained, the release thanked President Nayib Bukele and the Salvadoran government for their ongoing cooperation. "Once again, we thank President Bukele and the government of El Salvador for their extraordinary cooperation in securing the security of our countries from transnational crime and terrorism," the release stated.
The deportation is another action by the U.S. government to address the menace of foreign criminal gangs. The deportation of the individuals aims to significantly reduce the threat they pose to American society, upholding the nation's commitment to public safety.
Additional information about the operation and the destiny of the criminals deported in El Salvador is not yet available.
