Secretary of State Marco Rubio
Washington, D.C. – March 28, 2025
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, alongside First Lady Melania Trump, will honor a distinguished group of women at the 19th annual International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award Ceremony. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, at 1:00 p.m. EDT at the Department of State.
The IWOC Award, established in 2007, recognizes women from around the world who have shown remarkable courage, resilience, and leadership in advocating for peace, justice, human rights, and the empowerment of women and girls. The honorees often face significant personal risks and make considerable sacrifices in their efforts to promote positive change within their communities. To date, the U.S. Department of State has honored over 200 women from more than 90 countries.
This year’s ceremony will be open to media representatives who have completed the pre-registration process. In addition, the event will be streamed live on the Department of State’s official website and YouTube channel to ensure broader public access.
Following the award ceremony, the honorees will take part in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a key professional exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. government. The awardees will engage with American counterparts through this program to share ideas and strategies for empowering women and girls worldwide.
Media representatives interested in covering the event must register by 12:00 p.m. EDT on March 31. Detailed instructions for arrival and call times will be provided to those who have registered. For more information or questions regarding the event, please contact the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues at StateGWI@state.gov.
The IWOC Award Ceremony serves as an important platform to celebrate the resilience and achievements of women advocating for change, often under challenging circumstances. The event highlights the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting global initiatives that uplift and empower women.
